Newbie saying hello.

Tell us a little bit about you...

Newbie saying hello.

Postby carolineharry on Thu Apr 23, 2009 12:51 pm

:smt006 Hello, I'm new, and very nervous. There's so much to read on here, so I doubt I'll ever catch up with you guys. This place is great, I feel I'll learn a lot from you.I was a fan of Japan in the 80's, and I've been trying to catch up with David's career since I got a couple of Japan cd's on Mother's Day this year.

So, howdy doody folks.

Hi Caroline nice to meet you :smt006 - I've not been here that long either, but don't worry everyone is very friendly. My story is much like yours having been a huge fan from 1980 but only recently rediscovered David and the other boys and the work they've done since.

Must say I've seen you on Pioneers recently too, I've registered but have still yet to post. Anyway, hope to catch up with you at some point :D

Thanks for the welcome, Barbierian.Yeah, I'm on The Pioneers forum too, and another one, erm, davidsylvian.net I think.
There's a lot of material for me to catch up on.I'm currently reading Martin Power's book, The Last Romantic. :D
First single I ever bought as a 12 year old kid with my pocket money was I Second That Emotion.I played it to death.
Snow Borne Sorrow landed on my doormat this morning, and I've been giving it a good listen to.In the car, in the kitchen etc.As Forest Gump might say of David's music, his songs are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.

:smt006 Hi Natasha, fancy seeing you here. Thanks for saying hello, it can be quite daunting being a newbie on a forum.

Well, we were all new once, you know... but I do understand what you mean. I've been trying to persuade Barbierian to post on Porcupine Tree Forum (she's a member there) but no luck as yet...

Sometimes, being a lurker is better than not being a member of a forum at all.At least you can learn some interesting stuff. :-D

True. Unfortunately there are some people who lurk because they don't want to be discovered - NOT meaning you Caroline...

I know you are hun - it's just that I'm still doing my homework on PT as there is so much to go back on and I know diddley squat compared to everyone else. I'm trying to find my starting point with their music and work out what I like and what I don't - you could always be my mentor

I know I can join in on the general threads but so far the moment hasn't taken me :?

Perhaps you could recommend a starting point for me. Nothing too heavy preferably, which I understand their later stuff can be (I'll deal with that later) :D

I would probably go for the Stupid Dream or Lightbulb Sun albums to start with... LBS has some heavier moments but it's actually my favourite PT album. If you've recently broken up with someone you might find it hard to listen to... but it IS brilliant...

Anything else you want to know? :D
