Dear Sylvian Fans

Tell us a little bit about you...

Dear Sylvian Fans

Postby Chet on Mon Jun 02, 2008 3:54 pm

Sitting on the balcony writing
another beautiful Swedish early summer day is ending
The Boy With The Gun is playing inside.
Became an Eno fan as a kid in the end of the 70s
and discovered Sylvian in Japan with Nightporter
Ghosts and Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence was
among the most important pieces of art as a teenager.
Mutability and Let The Happiness In saved my life.
Been visiting London and Opium Arts twice a year since
I was 15 (1984)... wish I could be with you on the meet-up.
I have so much I would like to talk about and mention...
I will continue soon.

Hiya Chet and welcome :D

I can certainly empathise with that feeling of music saving your life - Japan did for me!

Look forward to more posts and... btw... you could always fly over for the meetup

Hello Chet!

Welcome! Yes - you could always come over and visit us! Come and say Hi! I'd like to say 'ditto' to what Natasha has said about DS/Japan 'saving your life ..' well, making the world a better place to be in when at times it all felt too unbearable. Anyway enough of that ...

WELCOME HOME!

...
went to a Sylvian convention in London in 87 (or was it 88)
met some fantastic people.
I finally saw David live at the first show of his last tour, September, here in Stockholm. yes, it was my first time, cause my mum didn't let me go to the show he did with Japan last time he was in Sweden, in 1982. (25 years between the concerts!)

When you say a Sylvian convention... do you mean one of the Bamboo parties at the 100 Club in London...?

I went to two of those, but without rifling through my back issues of Bamboo I can't remember if it was 1986 and 1987... I think it was. I actually appear in Bamboo twice... enough showing off now!!!

There were quite a few but sadly I only went to 2 of them.

The people who ran Bamboo fanzine organised them - Debi Zornes and Howie whose surname escapes me. Debi is Mick's manager now, or at least works closely with him, and it was thanks to her that I met David, so it seems like all her hard work at Bamboo landed her a dream job!

I have, I think, the best job in the world that doesn't involve being in the music industry, and I'm 100% serious about that! I'm an electronic notetaker for Deaf people...
