I like Oil on Canvas alot!! I go through a phase of playing it practically non stop, then leave it for a couple of months, then repeat the whole cycle again.
I remember reading also, that it wasn't received too well by fans. You can hear that a bit of reworking had been done. The audience is quite low, some of the instruments sound very (studio) polished. But still it is a very good time capsule for the band.
And I agree, the remaster has made it sound a lot better!

Note: If you haven't got around to buying a remaster of this CD, look for the Japanese edition. It has a much "cleaner" sound.

When I think of the fan response to Oil on Canvas, it reminds me of the fan response to Arena (Duran's live CD). Both had alot of tweeking down, both contained studio recorded songs... both could have been quite different! But in saying that, I like both as they are.

I went to the last show at Hammersmith, was a very emotioal night, given we all knew it would be the last gig in the U.K, and the last time we would see them live, fantastic night.

Wow what I would give to be older at moments like this, I am so jealous :D - I hope you cheered your lungs out!! I would've cried...

I found a ticket stub in my vinyl version of Assemblage for the Hammersmith Odeon actually, but it was from 17th May 1981 at the Hammersmith Odean...

They played the Hammersmith Odeon a lot -venue loyalty? lol

So lucky to have been there Burnsjed!! *sighs and faints*

Last Show...

I was also at the last UK show @ the Odeon...It was quite an overwhelming experience for a young lad!
Back then , it was as if Dave had this demi-god aura around him...

Another person to be jealous of lol :D He seems like the kind of person who would elicit this from fans. I mean my friend who knows v little about him even said that he must have such a presence about him.

Can't wait to see him
