Hi,

has anyone seen the photographs taken in China by Marc Riboud? Obviously the person deciding the title of the respective song and the cover photograph for Tin Drum - probably DS? - must have seen this interesting book. It has 102 black and white photos, No. 36 "Peasant couple, Jiangsu 1965" has been the model for the cover: a couple sitting in a plain room, Mao poster hanging on the wall, the man at the table eating rice with chop sticks. If anyone is interested I will scan it in.

Regards, Stefanie

That would be interesting. So, if it's not too much trouble, go ahead and scan, sister! :D

+1 from me too...your post got me googling and came across this picture by him (called 'divorce' - a photo of a divorce court) which reminded me of the rear cover.

Sorry, it took a while...

Oh that's too close to the TD cover to be a coincidence. Even the type of lightbulb is the same. Thankyou for posting that.

Thanks.
And I agree with karnsculpture: it's difficult to think of a coincidence.

You're welcome. I found this book in London when I was there to see the Tin Drum tour...

this is fascinating
thank you so very much for the pictures
it seems almost impossible that the titles and photographs' similarities are only coincidence
if the photos go to 1980 then the book must have been new in 1981 when Japan was creating Tin Drum and since at that time David was so interested in all things Chinese he probably stubbled upon this book and was inspired for Tin Drum's cover
