Clearly not wishing to cheer you guys up here, but i went to a funeral of a friend this week and in the UK the deceased (obviously before they die) chooses three songs to say goodbye with.

Just wondered what your choice would be - to get you started here is mine

1. Nightporter - Japan
2. Cars - Gary Numan ( likely mode of death, given the speed i drive)
3. Art of Parties - Japan (loved this song from the first moment i heared it)

By the way, i love tonnes of songs, but these work for me!!!

My funeral, hopefully my funeral will allow me to do a Top 20

You are still not there Britney!!!

RIP Dr David

Creepy post...

Some time I have thought 'The day I die I want this record on' while listening to The Who's 'My Generation'...

I still have to think about the other two...

The question was not the song you will die too?

It was a case of the songs (3) you would like to remebered by!

Given the choice of the Who, you must be a lot older than even me, but a great choice all the same!

Secondary question, what songs do you think our heroes would select?

Regards David

I thought it was implicit on my answer, sorry... And you will be surprised when I tell you that I'm just 21 years old!!

I've been thinking about the other two and it's really a hard choice... but rightnow, probably I'd chose 'Without you I'm nothing' by Placebo , or Sylvian's 'Orpheus' , or...that's really hard!!

There are alot of songs that are good for a funeral, hard to pick!!!

Here are some suggestions though:

"Funeral for a Friend" Elton John
"Your Song" Elton John
"Stuff and Nonsense" Split Enz
"The Chauffeur" Duran Duran

Hmm... Japan-wise I would say Voices Raised in Welcome, Hands Held in Prayer. I'll have to think about the others, however.

OK this is a tough one..good topic AOP...

Never thought of Japan in relation to what I would have played at my funeral but there would probably be a Japan song in there somewhere...most probably My New Career as its a bit sad (well to me it is anyway)...and it means the most to me out of all their songs...

I would also probably have (dont laugh) something by Coldplay as they are on my wavelength emotionally and melodically. Anything from 'a Rush of Blood to the head' would do really...makes me blubb like a baby.

Erm....The Who's 'Wont get fooled again' would be up there too, and DEFINITELY 'Shine on you crazy diamond' by Pink Floyd. To me, they are seriously emotionally intense songs, perfect for a funeral.

Incidentally AOP, when you say here in the UK we choose 3 songs to say goodbye with, isnt that normally hymns, or is that in addition to hymns? It's just I wasnt aware of this tradition...

Im very sorry to hear of your friend's death.

..............Gods, could it be your cousin's husband wanted those selections, and that the reason was to evoke the reaction---if so, then I would say he was very successful!!! I would hope that at the time of my death that everyone would remember the good things and the funny times, and just get totally stupid-drunk!!!! :-D

Yes....I agree totally - In which case...................................................
no, I cant think of a Japan song which makes me laugh!!

The only think that comes to mind is 'Always loook on the bright side of life' by Monty Python!! Corny eh?

he mentioned wanting elvis... i mean everyone who knew him knew he absolutely LOVED elvis. But, his friends got together who went to the track with him and got the idea to play the trumpeting music. It really was the most wonderfully life affirming part of the entire funeral. It was a sad event capped off by a really good memory and laugh.

THat is really cool of his friends to do that , in that case. They must have really loved him, and kept it all in perspective. Always better (or should i say easier) on the grieving process to find the positive and the humor when you can.

Absolutely!!!!!!!! I REALLY wish I could when I have busy days at work, but most times I end up frustrated and angry because everyone seems to be asking really stupid questions just when I don't need it...instead I should be thankful that I am needed so bad and try to let it be just water under the bridge, answer the question and move on....................with a smile on my face.
