Right, a bit late on this one as I am with most things, but AS for me at the time (and I guess I heard it mid 79) was closer to the mixture of funk and fizzy punkoid rock that Marc Bolan was responsible for with T.REX from 74 onwards but with a sort of nervous anger attached to it. And if you think about the way Sylvian got Simon Napier Bell as a manager then they must have been influenced by Boley cos Bell managed him too at one point.
I don't think its a classic like Quiet Life cos the sound has dated quite badly but I still love it and theres a sort of splintered glass quality to it, y'know, its brittle and it hasn't got that melancholy feel to it that they had from OA onwards. But you can hear that brittle anger on Fall In Love With Me and even Still Life In Mobile Homes. I don't have a problem with Dave's voice on that one, I think its their most sexy album. God I don't half talk bollox sometimes.
Oh hello by the way, I'm Dee on Nightporter.
