Yeah, I agree with you on the not 'rocky' bit, had some funky rhythms going on, and a touch of reggae.

I guess a lot of artists aren't pleased with their earlier efforts, but it's that start that led them to where they are now. If that origin hadn't been there, they likely wouldn't have evolved they way they did.

 Nah, just kidding.

I thought the first two albums were quite unique when I first heard them. They don't have the same effect on me as the later albums and they're not really deep at all, but they're fun just the same. Sometimes you just need to break out the fun and dance-y albums for a change of pace, y'know? Either way, Adolescent Sex is a fun album to drive to!

I LOVE the first two albums, I think because of the funk and groove going on, and they just have that late 70's feel to them. I can't do much about the fact that David doesn't like them and I understand how he feels, but I still like them and think they are just as important as the other albums----it is an example of the growth as a band---breaking away from being told what to sound like and just sounding like themselves---it is all in the process of growing.

I've said all of this before, probably in another thread, so pardon me if I repeat myself---but I feel strongly about it.

When you get a chance Gods, listen to them. I know enough about you that they may not be your groove at the moment, but it is good listening to get a grasp of the early Japan history if nothing else.

I have always loved the title track... again, for the memories it evokes for me and because of those backing vocals and insanely catchy chorus!
These are years with a genius for living.

Adolescent Sex is def my favourite Japan single. I love the video too - where they're alone on the train (Victoria line). What would I give to be alone in a train carriage with these guys???

Transmission. This whole album just grooves, and bounces.

The first Japan's song to strike me was "Transmission" and now I came to love the sound of "Suburban Love"... :-D
