Japan and Sylvian on Steven Wilson compilation

Postby Quiet Visitor on Thu Nov 03, 2022 10:36 am

Steven Wilson will release a 4 CD (7 LP) compilation-boxset called "Intrigue – Progressive Sounds In UK Alternative Music 1979-89". It will feature tracks from both Japan and David Sylvian.
Interesting mix for people (like me) who grew up in the seventies with progressive music, but discovered a lot of fine music in the early 80's, after punk had ruined the musical climat fro prog.

This is a very informative release. Each track comes with a comment on the band/artist (all about 100 words long). Of course some bands are missing, some because Wilson wasn't allowed to use them (Talk Talk, Virginia Astley, Prefab Sprout, The Blue Nile, Random Hold), some because they were not in his colllection (?), like Modern Eon/English, Silent Running, The Dance Society, Comsat Angels, Interview, but hé, I'm not complaining: there's plenty of stuff collected I never heard of (Perennial Divide, O Yki Conjugate, Mr And Mrs Smith And Mr Drake. I guess, just like a lot of music from the UK, some of these bands were only promoted over there.
