Money For All

This may be old news that has been covered elsewhere. Apologies if I am being redundant....

Though I can't be 100% sure of it's accuracy, I've been informed that this is the official running order of songs on the 'Money For All' ep:

1 Money For All (Sylvian/Friedman)
2 Get The H*ll Out (Sylvian/Jansen)
3 The Banality Of Evil (remix by Burnt Friedman)
4 Wonderful World (remix by Burnt Friedman)
5 Birds Sing For Their Lives (Sylvian/Jansen/Nordenstam)
6 Serotonin (remix by Burnt Friedman)
7 Money For All (alternate mix)
8 Get The H*ll Out (remix by Burnt Friedman)

I've also learned that the Sylvian track "When Loud Weather Buffeted Naoshima" has a duration of 70 min 17 seconds. This may also be already well known, and if so, again my apologies.

I am not entirely confident concerning the validity of this, but I have been informed that When Loud Weather Buffeted Naoshima is indeed a 70 minute soundscape featuring an ensemble including Sylvian on guitar keyboards and samples, shakuhachi player Clive Bell, trumpeter Arve Henriksen, guitarist Christian Fennesz, and Akira Rabelais also providing samples. Again, this info may not be entirely accurate.

Im also looking forward to this release.

I confess that I read a negative review of the Nine Horses CD and put off ordering it until recently. Don't know why but got into the older stuff and then had to order it, bad or not. I love it. Only time will tell but listening to it after SOTB feels good, kinda like a young Pinot Nero after a chewy Stag's Leap Cab - a future classic?

I just listened to the sound clips on the official website. Funky, groovy songs! :D Gonna love it, but it will take a few listens. The soft part in Get the Hell out sounds lovely ("Caroline..."). The remix of "The Banality" sounds great as well. Looking forward to this! A lot!

I've got new CD. It has already been released here in Japan. It is a great album.

Two new songs--Money For All and Get The H*ll Out--are funky and so cool. These songs are different in mood from before and I'm wondering if something good has happened to David. I hope so.
The last tune, Money For All, sounds somehow familiar to me, the tune kind of reminds me of KISS's I Was Made For Lovin' You and Blondie's Call me. Good old 80's music.
As for Get The H*ll Out. . . . Is there anyone called Caroline? You are so lucky. I want to change my name to Caroline. Or I maybe I'll use Caroline for my middle name! I haven't got a middle name yet (Japanese don't have them). I'm wondering who the h*ll Caroline is, David.
The Remixed Banality Of Evil is so nice and beautiful that I almost cried.
The other remixed songs are all great.
It is a good advantage for David that he can make as many remixed songs as he likes because of having his own label. Probably it would be impossible to make albums of remixed songs if musicians only belonged to big record companies. I hope David keeps remixing his songs. I would like to hear the entire album of Snow Borne Sorrow remixed, too.

Does anybody like Stina Nordenstam's singing?
In Wonderful World I find her voice a bid hard to listen to: her breathy sound is so fragile and limp with ennui. . . . It's like listening to someone with emphysemia talking--you want to breath for them. It's like she's leaking air to no effect, like her squeaker is broken (like that penguin in Toy Story II). I chuckle a bit when she starts to sing. On Bird's Sing For Their Lives her voice is better suited to the feeling at the song, I think.

Naoko,

If it were not such a clique, I'd state that Im jealous that you got it sooner than the gaijins here... :smt022

I agree that Stina's vocal on Wonderful World is a little jarring, but it seems to fit now that I know the song so well. Like a off-color fissure line in a granite wall, an odd but accepted occurrence.

I doubt we will see a proper SBS remix album like Blemish had, but you never know. My crystal ball sees various remixes over time, different formats. After all Nine Horses is not a linear 'band' who will form, write, rehearse, record, promote/tour, release DVD live at The House of Blues, hang out and repeat for another contractual CD...

Thanx for the personal review. Enjoy!

-David

Caroline

Thank you for the comments about my message, David in Huston and Bern. I'm listening to the Money For All cd every day and night and enjoying it so much. Takagi's Exit/Delete is a nice, soft song. I don't have the cd so I listened to it on YouTube.

I've been wondering for a while who Caroline is. I happened to read a blog written by a Japanese David Sylvian expert (His blog gives me the impression he is a real expert. There are a lot of people like you guys in Japan too!) He wrote that Caroline in Takagi Masakatsu's Exit/Delete is related to Lou Reed's Caroline Says II (Why "II" ? Because there is Caroline Says "I", too.) David liked Velvet Underground and Japan has covered their song All Tomorrow's Parties before. Is that sufficient reason to use the name Caroline twice?
Or is it because the word Caroline is easy to sing? Or does Caroline just sound nice to sing? Who knows? I'm not a native English speaker, so it's difficult for me to judge. If he was using the name of an old girlfriend, it would be Yuka, wouldn't it. . . . Sounds a little bit awkward, too short to sing. Or maybe it is the name of David's new girlfriend! That would be exiting. I wish him to be happy again.

. . . It's so cold in Alaska . . . as it is in Japan right now.

All the best, Naoko
