I think the two new albums are beautiful too. The images make me feel sad for some reason, don't what it exactly it is about them; a bittersweet quality.

i love the way he "sees" things. i especially love the images that are dominated not by the objects within the shot but by the sky above or the ground in front. there's a tender quality to clouds in his photos--i don't know how he does it but the cloud shots are so...touchable.

The very first pic in album 8 reminds me of what i used to do on the trip back to shore from a long day of scuba diving----sit and stare at the boat wake!!!

My favorite of both albums is "Sora"

I actually find them a bit repetitive. its like the pics one takes when one gets a camera for the first time - could do with editing.
Then again, anything sylvian is interesting because its him.

theres a real sense of ...aloneness in these pictures.

Oops didn't notice this post and just posted something under david/general.
I have to say I agree they rather repetitive and don't have the strength to them that the others he's done do.
I found volume 9 to be stronger than 8. I also think he could have edited them down more to give them a deeper sense of individual identity.

Those photos were taken when David visited Naoshima recently (maybe in August as the calendar in one of the photos suggests). The Naoshima website has recently linked to these photos. He seems to like Kusama's work. I also love her art very much.

There is so much junk everywhere in Japan . . . (sigh). But I'm impressed that a lot of junk has turned into works of art when David has pressed the shutter! Those photos really show what the landscapes of small Japanese towns are like (except some photos of the inside of subway trains, which I think were taken in Tokyo).

Now I really want to know when he is going to visit the island next.

I'm thinking of taking a trip down there with my family.

for me i think the deep depth of field being used in almost every image is what i find most distracting. It is hard to decipher what the intended meaning is... or to even create my own interpretation. I don't know as I said I am just way distracted by some of the photos.

What would be cool is to see the comparison of junk around other countries... i mean the usa is full of sort of junky stuff. In the middle of the woods around here you can find random tv sets just tossed out. Really sad actually.
