Japan Club Night Saturday August 22nd 2009, London

Postby karnsculpture on Sun Feb 01, 2009 9:53 am

The date is fixed - but the venue and prices etc are not - we are DEFINITELY having another Japan night on Saturday August 22nd in London.

Updates will be posted here in due course but for now keep that weekend clear in your diaries!

If, by some quirk of fate, there happened to be a live show by one of the guys (or another musician we like) on the same night the Japan do will take place after the show.

It will definitely be open for longer hours as that was the No1 thing people requested.

Now is the time if people want to discuss what the would like to happen eg. music, video, dress code or not, food etc and I will try my best to meet people's expectations.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to write a quick note to confirm that the Japan night is on Saturday 22nd August and will take place again at The London Stone, Cannon Street, London.

The bar has got working video equipment now, and they are having some refurbishments done at present, which I will check out the next time I am in London. We will also be open for longer (at least another 2 hours).

Once I have got the DJs sorted (any volunteers?) and a couple of other things agreed I'll be sending another message out with more info (times, prices, location info, suggested hotels etc).

Best wishes

Absolutely agree - the hotel is nice enough, but the staff are so rude it beggars belief and talk about incompetent .... don't get me started on that one!

But we had an excellent time anyway didn't we Nat?

Oh I will DEFINITELY be attending this party in August as that month sees me celebrating my 40th Birthday - Paul, you couldn't have given me a better present if you tried!!!!!!

I'm looking forward to it too. I'm confident all of the things that made the last one not as good as I hoped have been fixed (most obviously the video).

This year we have a new DJ - musician and writer Anthony Reynolds, who has interviewed Sylvian amongst many other things.

Once things have quietened down with work I'll be getting on with really promoting this night. I want twice as many people there - we have the space so why not? I know quite a few people who couldn't make it last time are determined to be there so it will be a great night, even just from the point of view of me being able to catch up with people.

Requests - I kept all the ones from last time so when deciding the DJ sets I'll be handing those over to the chaps to consider playing. I was kicking myself for not bringing some Visage, for instance. I know Visage is not Japan but there was definitely a vibe that at a certain time people wanted to hear the early 80s classics.

I'm also planning to play more downbeat music early on and maybe really really late on, at the stage where people want to talk and talk. The longer hours should make that possible.

Optional I think. I know many people will dress up. What do you think?

Well, I think it's best to leave it optional as many people WILL dress up, but some definitely do not like that sort of thing and may be put off attending because of it. Although I have to say if you are a die hard fan then NOTHING should put you off attending if you have the means to do so! Just my humble opinion! And I MIGHT be persuaded to dress up AGAIN!!!!
