Is'nt the line "The flowers of the pollen we feed on"? must admit I can't get any of the other names although I would love the name after David McNeil to be Jackie Chan because that's what I'm hearing

You forgot to mention Jean Cocteau.

I always laugh when David says "My friends: Steve, Richard, (pause, very long pause) and Mick". The year was 1982.

Can I suggest Ernst Lubitsch for the name after Thomas Mann and before Erik Satie?

He was a film director, responsible for the sublime "Ninotchka" and "Shop Around the Corner".

I always thought that after
Federico Fellini
That David said "Oh, he's good".

The number of times David says "Um" in this piece, makes me laugh.

I will see if I can spot any other names :)

Oh..and this is a link to the mp3:

I found the way, by the sound of your voice.

what about
MALEVICH the Russian Painter, instead of Marie Vitt
absolutely JACKIE CHAN
JEAN JACQUES ST PERES
JEROME SAVARY the French Film Director after Ken Loach
HERMANN HESSE the painter and poet after Fellini
ALAIN RESNAIS the Director of Hiroshima Mon Amour after Yukihiro
MITO instead of Me Too
EL LISSITSKY before Chuya
BOB (Robert) ALTMAN after Milos Forman
JOAO GILBERTO

that's all I can help out with

I think "tamara" means Tamara de Lempicka.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamara_de_Lempicka
Yukihiro Takahashi wrote "Ballet" (BGM - YMO), it is about her, he said.

Pierre Barouh (P): My son, Benjamin,
? : Benjamin (in French)
David Sylvian (D): Ah... Yukihiro (laughs)
Yukihiro Takahashi (Y): David, Dave(?), Steve, Karn(?)...
P : Je fais(?) une chanson annee prochaine ????
D or Y: Next year (laughs)
Y(?) : It's too new
D : Ah-hum ... Alain Resnais (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alain_Resnais)
P : ?????
Y : Haruomi (Hosono, YMO), Professor (I think it's nickname of Ryuichi Sakamoto, in Japanese, "Kyoujyu" because he studied music in college)
D : Me too (laughs)
P : Maria Betania
D : Eh, Juicy frucy (?)
Y : Tonovan (Kazuhiko Kato, Sadistic Mika Band),
Brian (Ferry?),
Fill(?) and Andy(?)
and Bill (Nelson? http://www.orange-lab.com/tequeno/osfoldj.htm#BILL)
and we(?) (laughs)

I'm not good in English, forgive me if I'm wrong.
I'd like to know others.

"Fill" = Phil Manzanera, Roxy Music and Andy will be Andy MacKay from Roxy Music - both played on Yukihiro's album "Neuromantic".

David's "Juicy Frucy" might be Juicy Fruits, a Techno-Kayo pop group in Japan who were connected with Haruo Chikada, another YMO collaborator. I don't know much about them but this blog posting is informative:

http://mutant-sounds.blogspot.com/2007/ ... japan.html

I am thinking David might be joking but it's not beyond the realm of possibility that he might enjoy it lol!

By the way, the live version on the album "Dites 33 vol. 2" (available on iTunes) does feature David - he flew to Paris specifically to play with Pierre in 1983. However, the backing band is Moonriders and Yukihiro's part is taken by Keiichi Suzuki instead.

On iTunes the album is totally wrongly tagged - all the tracks have the "artist" shown as the songwriter; in fact all should be credited to Pierre Barouh.

Thank you karnsculpture :D
I've never heard of Juicy Fruits.
David knew a lot of Japanese Band then, he mentioned some of Japanese bands in Ryuichi's radio show after JAPAN's last live.
David said "Dynamites. Golden Cups. Tempters. OX... "(those are early 70's bands)
Ryuichi "socks, tights"

I don't know any of them.

Ox Drivers - I imagine David learning about Japanese 60s music from Masami, Makoto Kubota and the other Sunsetz, as well as YMO. Those guys started out in the late 60s and are from a generation before Japan really. Takahashi's brother was in a 60s group (he was older, and pretty famous). YMO covered Ox Drivers too. I imagine late nights on the drink with the Japanese guys introducing David and co to the music they grew up with.

Wow! karnsculpture, you know a lot of thing! great! :D
I wondered who told David those Bands. Yuka? but she might listened to Jazz.
by the way, Yukihiro and his older brother, Tonovan (Kazuhiko Kato), and David Palmer in this video.
Yukihiro wears Yellow sweater, and Tonovan sit beside him in gray sweater. I think Yukihiro's brother sit between foreign girls.?sorry, I don't know who is yukihiro's brother. :(

I think Yukihiro's brother is Eitan Takahashi but I'm not 100 percent certain. I have that clip on tape in a longer version. Beat Takeshi pops up too - he was a regular presenter of that show. I have a tape somewhere with Steve and Rich as guests and there is a lot of talk in English - Takeshi is the main host for that one. I think it was from the time of Oil On Canvas and the Ippu-Do Japanese tour.

The guy in the grey jumper is definitely Kazuhiko Katoh, and yes David Palmer is there, I don't know the girls, or the guy opposite Yuki who seems very involved. Maybe he is the other one from Beat Takeshi's duo "Two Beats"? I think Yuki's brother is on the end, nearer Yukihiro.

In the background I think I can see Hajime Tachibana laughing but I'm not really sure.
