DS to feature on Arve Henriksen's new CD

Postby inkinthewell on Wed Oct 15, 2008 1:03 pm

From musicconnection.org.uk:
"Cartography release date: 20th October 2008
First ECM leader date for the widely-admired Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen (who performs at the London Jazz Festival on 14 November), Cartography explores a range of changing, beautiful landscapes with electronic wizards Jan Bang and Erik Honoré and guests such as singers Anna Maria Friman and David Sylvian (here reciting his own poetry). It’s very “visual” music, like soundtracks for unmade films, emphasising melody and atmosphere."

hhmmm i think i'm foreign as well since i'm not from the same country as you neonico. LOL
anyway most people just refer to me as gods to shorten the name.... (p.s. don't think for a moment that i think i am God or god ... just liked this line from one of d.s.'s songs)

Personnel:
Arve Henriksen - (trumpets, voice), with: Jan Bang - (samples), Erik Honoré - (synthesizer), Audun Klieve - (percussion), Eivind Aarset - (guitars), Anna Maria Friman - (voice), David Sylvian - (speaker) and others
1. Poverty And Its Opposite
2. Before And Afterlife
3. Migration
4. From Birth
5. Ouija
6. Recording Angel
7. Assembly
8. Loved One
9. The Unremarkable Child
10. Famine's Ghost
11. Thermal
12. Sorrow And Its Opposite
'Cartography' is produced by Jan Bang and Erik Honoré, co-founders of Kristiansand's Punkt Festival, location for several of these recordings. The pair have collaborated for many years - they work as a duo also called Punkt and as a travelling remix unit. As shapers of soundscapes they are in search of a relaxed yet intense openness, a description that can be applied to the music here. Much of the music is freely created but its particular freedoms are applied to horizontal movement: Heniksen's trumpet glides over the changing terrain created by his associates. Amongst the many guests is singer David Sylvian, making his ECM debut reading two of his poems; Trio Mediaeval are sampled on the track "Recording Angel", and Anna Maria Friman sings on "Famine's Ghost".

On Arve's My Space you can hear a clip from the new album
(Some atmospheres, when closing your eyes, you want to travel in time
to spheres you did not know they existed, so great)
You can hear David twice too.

I wish David would post more of his poetry on his website. I'd love to see more of his stuff.

Yes, so do I..Angels is very good as well - the collaboration he did with Punkt from Crime Scenes. I've just listened to the taster of Arve's new album ...it sounds beautiful, he has such a unique sound, so haunting...am going to order a copy now I think.
