Rob Dean in Mojo

Postby Stoobie on Wed Apr 14, 2010 2:24 pm

Rob Dean is in Mojo this month talking about Japan, he mentions the Big party Japan had for him leaving after Art of Parties Tour and bits and pieces

Its on the very last page of the mag, for those like me who had a quick read !

Very concise, but interesting. I gather that the "David called me, and I agreed with him, really" bit means that David and Rob more or less discussed his dismissal from the band, which is slightly different from Mick Karn's version on his book.
It's a pity that Rob lost his hair. Costa Rican birds would have loved nesting in it. :D

Thank you for posting the article. Interesting mention of Hall & Oates, can see how that coincides with David's liking Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye; another component in developing Japan's sound.

Someone mentioned that they would like reading Richard's version, but given this quote, I doubt that we will ever know

"I used to be in a band called Japan in the late 70s, early 80s, and got into coke a little bit. And there are real lapses of memory about that time. It’s very odd. I know I was there. And I know we did it. But there are certain things I just cannot remember. I really wonder…"

oh, that sounds bad.
guess you're right, that sounds like there isn't much memory. but if it is so, he must have been more into coke, than just "a little bit".

and why is rob looking like mortiis? i really can't believe that....

Sylvian has been a Darryl Hall fan for a long time according to Ingrid. She mentioned it in a thread on the "I am the Programmer" Facebook page.

The feeling must have been mutual, I have a photo somewhere of Hall & Oates onstage wearing Japan T shirts
