Recently I bought the book "Low" by Hugo Wilcken, published in the famous 33 1/2-series (which has promised us a book on Tin Drum years ago). While reading the background of the first of David Bowie's Berlin album, I listened to the CD, especially the original instrumental side 2. Maybe this has been discussed before, but while hearing Art Decade (especially the metronome-like drum-machine) I had to think of Despair, while the closing Subterraneans (including Bowie's melancholic saxophone-playing) brought The Tenant in mind.
When Quiet Life was released the influence of expecially Roxy Music was discussed, but what influence had the music of Bowie on Japan?

Nice to read that Anthony Reynolds writes in Japan: A Foreign Place (p. 42):

The Tenant was obviously reminiscent of Eno's instrumentals from Before And After Science (...)

Eno is known for being resposible for most of the parts on side 2 of Low.

On page 69 Reynolds goes deeper into the influence of Bowie on Quiet Life.
