I always bought my Bowie albums etc. via cheap mail order - in order to save p &p costs you had to spend a certain amount. In early 1979 I put an order and needed another album to reach this amount. Since I had been very interested in Japan the country I thought why not order an Japan LP. Well, Obscure Alternatives turned out to be the best of the albums I had bought, so the next day I went downtown and bought Adolescent Sex.
Although I don't always like what the guys publish these days, I still consider myself a fan...

My first exposure was seeing Japan on TV on Avro's TopPop. (the Dutch equivalent of Top Of The Pops)
That would have been on the 25th of January 1979. (and yes, I looked it up)

Also played but not broadcast was the song Deviation. (now wouldn't it be great to see that some day)
(Deviation was released as a single in the Netherlands alone)

I was listening to the David 'Kid' Jensen Show one evening on Radio 1 in 1980 and he played a new single - it might have been his 'Record Of The Week' called I Second That Emotion. It took a couple of listens but I was soon hooked.

I went looking for it and found a red 7" of Life In Tokyo produced by Disco God Giorgio Moroder.
