Not lookalikes, but definitely inspired by the look were Panache. Remember these guys?

Pretty little Paul Hampshire in the red jacket (very Quiet Life), 19 in this photo. He's 44 today and hasn't changed all that much, shorter hair and less makeup. He lives in Bangkok, has a band called Futon (pretty good!) and goes by the name Bee.

Zaine Griff really had the Sylvian look for a while, if I can find a pic of him, I'll post it. He did know Japan and the YMO boys (not actually friends I don't think), and played on some of Takahashi's solo albums.

Heart, I usually question people's judgement when "that dude looks like a chick!" situations appear, but Paul Hampshire...

I wish I knew! LOL! All I know is they were English, had a couple of albums out and were big in Japan and Korea, I think Thailand too. Paul was the pinup boy, I don't think the music meant all that much in those countries. I've seen their pics in old magazines but never heard or seen a single song on any 80s compilation cd, and their albums weren't released in the States as far as I know. But I have found out that there is a re-release planned soon of one of their albums.

Friends of mine from England only vaguely recall them. I don't think they were popular in their own country, except for the occassional pinup.

Paul's been living in Thailand for a while, gained popularity as a DJ and now with his band, playing good pop electronica.

WOW those guys sure do look like Japan!! Kind of Quiet-Life-ish... The one guy with the glasses in the back looks just like a late 70's Mick!

 My thoughts exactly. There's something about him... he has small facial features, that's probably why.

Yeah, that one guy sure does look like Mick! The guy in the very back is channeling David a bit, too.

Strange... I tried to google their band, and Paul Hampshire, and I couldn't get a darn thing on them! Does anyone know of any sites, or pics of them or anything?

Never heard of any sites of the band. I've loads of pics of them, they were always in the Japanese pop magazines.

I never paid any attention to the pics until a couple of years ago when my friend in Thailand posted pics of the band Futon. I told her the guy looks like the one who used to be in Panache, and it was! I sent her photocopies of some of the pics, which he autographed for her. He laughed at them, said his mom has all this memorabilia about him in her attic.

One more pic:

The other day while I was cleaning house I saw a guy on the soap opera "Passions" that looks a little like David. Don't ask me his name or his part in the show because I don't actually watch it, I was getting ready to switch the channel and he just struck me as resembling David a bit.

Me too. Well, I did find a band on Google that goes by the same name, but they are definitely not the same Panache. I couldn't find anything on Wikipedia, either. Very odd.

EDIT: Mmm, I found a few small things.

This is a page with descriptions of a handful of New Romantic bands (Japan included). Some of the text is readable (looks like it's written by someone who speaks English as a second language) but I have question marks for the rest, so I assume it's in some foreign language for which I don't have a plug-in.

And this Danse Society band Hampshire was once involved with has a MySpace.
