Hi there,
my name's Mario, I'm a 25-yo fan from Italy! I wanted to recommend an 80s' german band to you all who love Japan's, David Sylvian's, Mick Karn's, Nine Horses' and Dolphin Brothers' music...they were called Bamboo Industry and then changed their name to Rain On Bamboo in the 90s and now they're run by their frontman Ingo Ito (ex-producer and session man of Camouflage) alone.
Their songs oew very very much to Japan, in terms of sound, instrumentations, melodic sensibilities, eastern arrangements and even vocals! Another comparison could as well be made with the later period's Talk Talk, with Ryuichi Sakamoto, with Furniture and with Alphaville (circa 1989-1994)!

and listen to believe!
The best song are "Reading, Writing And Tying Poem-Slips To Bamboo" from the album "Sleep & Poetry" and "Pride Only Hurts" from the album "Suburban Skirmish" (and from the same LP another "must" is "The Wild Wind"), while the track "Boat On The Backwater" is a "remake" of the old Sakamoto/Sylviian hit "Bamboo Houses"!
cheers from Rome
Mario
