japan to reform ? why not? will they ever? they should!

Talk about anything Japan-related.

Some artists (Roxy, Bowie, among many others) can return to their early material with dignity and commitment, somehow maintaining or revisiting the emotional investment they had in the work from the beginning. It's not embarrassing when such artists do this, because they are celebrating great moments in their work/careers, and bringing them back to life, approaching their legacy with respect and affection. Their hearts are in it.

This would, and should, never happen with any band that has lost these qualities.

I am in total agreement with you, sd. My last stand-alone sentence was why I think "Japan" should never reform.

I can't imagine that it would really feel good, for anybody.

. . .the obvious really. natsume; i don't now what 'sd' is supposed to denote. st would have been appropriate though perhaps a little lazy.

and back to the posted question . . . to reform would be hopeless without some kind of new body of work to play.
anything else would be a brand not a band. . . . which would only serve us(including me) the audience to gawp at them like animals in a zoo. not nice.

You mean to tell me if these guys played at a theater near you that you wouldn't be there to gawk? ...right :)

Somehow you missed my point. imo no new material is need, just a new point of view. And don't be surprised if it happens someday. David is going to have to re-stuff the coffers after this manafon debacle and this may be just the ticket. Of course there is always David's ego to deal with.

Japan will never reform and play anything. $1000000 to the bozo who buys the front row ticket! Word.

People have to remember even with Sylvian's insurmountable reluctance and the elephant in the room (or at least on bass) that would be Karn, Barbieri has been a member of Porcupine Tree longer than he was ever a member of Japan and has had considerable success both critically and in terms of sales, "it'll never happen again" as Sylvian would say

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm glad some artist just don't see the point. And we don't have to be afraid this will ever happen.

Now a second RTC album would be very nice, maybe some live shows.. but we can only dream.. :smt015

It'll never happen, although I'd fly to Antarctica to see them live! Sylvian seems to shun his past and would have nothing to do with a reunion. He's so far removed from the mainstream at this point, and the rest of the band aren't churning out hits, either. I think they're probably happy to leave Japan in the past and be forward-looking.

Now, if you could get The Smiths back together...

It would be ridiculous to see a FAT MOZ perform the songs now.. He's doing his utter best to totally destroy the Smiths songs with his current karaoke band. Dreadful..

Well, it says nothing to me about my life (anymore).

FAT MOZ still makes me laugh from time to time though.. but not in a good way. Recently he said that Bowie was important in the 70s but not now. Oh, and he still is?

People like Sylvian are still growing musically.. The only thing that's growing with Mozzer is his belly :-D
