Random Japan Facts!

Talk about anything Japan-related.

Postby Silver Moon on Thu Jun 22, 2006 7:08 pm

Ok... Sorry to get ON topic... But I just remembered some funny facts:

- In Japan Photo Story, Mick claims he doesn't wear underwear!

- In a recent interview, David Sylvian says he likes Missy Elliot's music!

- In the same interview (I think) The interviewer says "Three things I can't associate with you are Comedy, Pornography, and Sport." To this, Mr. Sylvian responds "I perfer all three simutaneously."

Haha!

Almost forgot... In another interview I read the interviewer says that the lights suddenly go out and DS says... "Oh- What the-?" Jumps up and flips on the power, and when he comes back he says "I really do not like the dark." ... Aww.

Im not sure how much of this is based on bitchiness, but David Bowie used to have a very interesting take on how Sylvian and Japan got their names. His claim was that Sylvian named himself after a character from Bowies song 'The Prettiest Star.' There is a line in that song that goes 'Hanging out with Sylvian etc...'.
There is another line from Ziggy Stardust that refers to a 'cat from Japan'. According to Bowie (although how he would know is anyones guess), David wanted to be known as the cat from Japan.
These are probably not trufax. But fun nevertheless. and they do come from Bowie's own mouth.

That's really interesting! I always sort of ponder the Japan thing everytime I hear Ziggy Stardust.

Regarding David's wrist, if you watch the making-of video for World Citizen (you can find it on YouTube), David is wearing a brace thingie on his wrist. I always thought it was maybe because of carpal tunnel or something (all that strumming) but maybe he was getting over the broken wrist.

bowie's infulence on Japan

Postby billster on Sun Aug 27, 2006 4:04 am

'Sylvian' is from 'Drive in Saturday'.
'Sylvian' is a medical term for a part of the brain...

When Davo was asked about this in Blitz interview '86 he hesitated-not wanting to be associated with Bowie and said he chose Sylvian 'cos I always thought it was a boys name'.

Mick shaved his eyebrows ala Ziggy and a lad iN Sane etc

Bowie has hardly ever acknowledged Japan or Sylvian in public, although he and Sylvo did meet backstage at the earls cours show on bowies 78 tour...Sylvo was but a fanboy then.

Bowie turned into A sylvian clone in '83...
