About time... rumours have been floating around about a new "Pop" album on Universal for more than a year now... As for his website, it still has his Season`s Greetings message on it!

Whaaaat!!!!

Come on Simon, you can't leave us dangling like this... if you know something concrete please drop a hint or two.

So how about some mindless speculation to pass the time?

I'll start... its a follow-up to PTSH and will be DS Playing The Bungalow... Yes, holed-up in a 1970's Bungalow in Scunthorp for six months, David has created a unique soundscape that scrapes (and that's some of the sounds) the depths of despair and loathing in darkest England... yep :smt005

That sounds less likely that what I posted above  ... but I guess you can never second guess David.

I would have thought the work he was doing with Hildur Guðnadóttir and others would be a more likely candidate.

Again unlikely, but hope this release will feature him as a vocalist, rather than (just) a soundmaker.

So is this pure speculation, or is there some substance to the thread title?

If there's some substance, what is it?
If not, why would you start such a thread in the first place?

I think we've been trolled

After a week at least come back and say something, even if it was 'a guy who knows a guy, heard something from someone and told someone else'

Otherwise please don't bother posting this sort of thing, as its fecking annoying.

Sylvian was in a recording studio around his birthday.

Which could mean anything and something (everything and nothing?)....

I'm still hoping that whatever was being worked on with Joan Wasser gets revisited/released, or a further collaborative exploration of jazz/soul/electronica whatever-the-hell Nine Horses was is attempted again. Although a supporter of Sylvian's more far-afield Samadhi Sound era of work, I am also one who would enjoy a return to a more conventional structure at this point.

Presence in a studio is no indication that anything like a finished album is on the way, anytime soon, at least. The whole Manafon project was spread out over many years, and many studios.

Being in a recording studio does suggest something different from the last two which were both largely laptop affairs - vocals, instruments or mixing. Would love to hear more from anyone n the know! :D

Well this certainly isn't the "pop" album that was hinted at, is it? "curated by David Sylvian" what does that mean? he's like the improv master of ceremony? Sounds really boring...
