Looks to be a 3" CD (to my memory, a rather dreadful format)...

Dreadful indeed :| I wonder why on earth they chose that format?... some players won't take them without a holder to make them full size, so you might as well just use a standard disk in the first place.

Since hearing of Samadhisound's demise I've often thought ECM would make a great place for a Sylvain release... They put out some really interesting and diverse material, and I love their art design too. They are one of my favourite labels, but the boss Manfred Eicher might be a bit too hands-on for someone like DS.

I just feel really lucky to have secured a copy! I missed out on the signed copies of Hypergraphica and Steve`s book but I was very grateful to have been on FB just when the announcement went up!

Wow! good for Confront... I wonder if he wishes he'd done a larger edition now?

I'm just glad I checked my emails in the brief window of returing home and heading out again yesterday.

Only twenty days to wait :P

David Sylvian

David Sylvian it's been a 38 year run. when is enough enough I wonder? this past decade or so running the samadhisound label has given me the greatest satisfaction of my 57 years. Should I find the same freedom again elsewhere I'll likely reach for it. It's a big ask though. I'm in no hurry. we'll see where the journey takes me. I appreciate the sentiment of your comment though. I've never taken the interest of others for granted but i follow my own path. This book represents so many things that are dear to me; my working relationship with chris bigg for one. design and artwork became an increasingly important part of my life and work once the label took off and chris played an important role in that exchange. The book celebrates 32 years or more of working with richard chadwick, my manager and dear friend, who now heads into retirement. This is a tribute to his love and sacrifice on my behalf. I could go on. The music is out there, it exists. There may be more to come. The writing doesn't stop even when the releases do. I guess that's reflected in the title of the book. Oh, there's so much that could be said. maybe one day.. 'til then dx

Great response from David.

Just wondering how everyone else views the future taking this post into account ............

Just on Facebook.
More copies may be unlikely from this response.

Confront is a small bespoke label, that specialise in small run editions. David has been a long time admirer of what we do and the way we do it - and a loyal customer too - as well as a contemporary of a number of the artists on our roster. I asked David to write a ‘single’ for the label and he presented me with the 15min ‘playing the schoolhouse’.

Confront represents music and sound art very much under the radar. It is my preference to keep things simple, with little fanfare. Maybe not easy to understand in this modern age.

To be honest, for a small label such as it is, the interest in the initial release has been overwhelming. And not to forgot, a complete success. We have not spoken about the possibility of another edition as yet. But the potential for further public interest is definitely there.

All I can really add at this point is sit tight, let us work through the release of the first edition and further monitor the general consensus.

Very best wishes,

Mark Wastell / Confront Recordings

mark’s approach to running his label is one I admire. along with numerous other labels i could mention, this is a one man operation and a labour of love. he brings to light work which might otherwise never be heard. others do the same and, in my opinion, deserve support. that the edition is small is due, in part, to the scale of the operation. it’s certainly not elitist as some have claimed and no one gets rich off of this kind of small run, you just have to do the math. It’s wonderful that so many have shown an interest in this piece that lies so far from the songwriting most seem to hunger for. I’m grateful for that. There’s no wish to leave people out of the loop. As mark said, let him get the first edition underway and see if there really is a desire for a second. One has to tread with caution with smaller labels. As I know to my cost running samadhisound, it’s a fine line between selling out an edition and finding yourself sitting on boxes of unsold pressings.

Hypergraphia
I finally got to browse a physical copy of Hypergraphia and, hand on heart, it’s one of the most beautiful books I’ve seen. It’s certainly a high note on which to end samadhi. Thank you to all that have made a purchase. some have mentioned high shipping costs. this is due to the fact that the weight of the book is (un)surprisingly heavy. 630 odd full colour pages on prime stock. if we’re lucky, we’ll break even. we’ve never set out to exploit the interests of our audience.

I'm appreciative that you had taken the time to post details of the announcement here on this forum. I wouldn't normally peruse facebook and would have entirely missed the opportunity to order a copy. Thank you.
It's almost definitely a coincidence, but Polwechsel's new product UNTITLED NO.7 [ released on vinyl by Austrian independent label God Records ] had also been issued in a limited edition of 300.

I'm glad you managed to get a copy baht :)

I don't check David's Facebook page either, but I did email Mark at Confront to express my interest, and then had an email on pre-order day. I just happened to check at the right time... I would have been gutted to have missed out and felt the info worth posting here.

From reading the Facebook entries, it does seem if demand is there then another run might happen, which is great for those who have missed out. The comments from David on the matter of running a lable are telling..... "As I know to my cost running samadhisound, it’s a fine line between selling out an edition and finding yourself sitting on boxes of unsold pressings." Clearly some Samadhi releases have not been a success, and its then easy to be dragged down when you're so small... though I think it has to be said that Samadhi were not great at customer relations, and my few dealings with using them were frustrating at best, and put me off using them directly.

So it seems PTS will only have a duration of fifteen minutes, which is disappointingly brief. I was hoping for something a little more expansive to be honest. Its also quite unusual to have no idea as to how it will sound. We are so used to having pre-release samples, that going in totally blind is like going back in time... it does make it more exciting though.

EDIT: just seen this on Confronts site re: a second pressing...
