I went to the Atsushi Fukui exhibition in Roppongi today - saw some paintings from the Uncommon Deities series as well as a copy of Hypergraphia.

It's incredibly dense - the paper is all shiny stock, all 600+ pages, so the book is seriously heavy. A different section for each album/period, my impression was that each features a different artist. Fukui of course was featured with some of the images from the Blemish time.

Quite stunningly designed, almost overwhelmingly so. I don't recall more than a few pages without photographs/graphics/paintings - and most that I remember bleed right to the edges, so it doesn't feel at all repetitively structured. Apart from the intro page of each section, almost every page seemed different.

Looking forward very much to browsing it at leisure rather than a quick 3 minute flip-through!

Thanks for the info javier :) ... It sound like an amazing volume, and can't wait to see it myself.

I kind of wish I'd ordered via Samadhi now if they are sending copies out already... I'll just have to wait on Amazon and see what happens.

Hi Javier,

Could you perhaps describe Atsushi`s exhibition? I have been trying to make sense of the various Japanese links but there is not really an overview online. Is there any way to purchase some of his work?

Hi Sven

The exhibition is of his "backpackers" paintings, portraits of backpackers against plain backgrounds (which personally I don't like as they have none of the magical quality of most of his other works) - except for one cityscape which was quite lovely.

But in a second room (closed to the public) they had some of the Uncommon Deities paintings among other small works - these were beautiful.
Things like this: http://tomiokoyamagallery.com/wp/wp-con ... 31x300.jpg
and other drawings of mushrooms and light sources.

Yes, all are for sale - contact the gallery for more information. They have a price list with thumbnails of all the paintings which I'm sure they'd be happy to send you. I was (and still am) sorely tempted to buy one of the works - if only I had any space on my walls...
