Thank you very much for the link, Chad. Hadn't read this interview before and I enjoyed it very much.
Earlier in this thread someone, talking about Chris' book, was saying: "oh, I hope this isn't a 'cut and paste' book". Chris has now made it clear for all that is is not the case with his book, but, considering how good and interesting most of his interviews are, wouldn't a collection of DS interviews put back to back in chronological order be fantastic?

Isn't that the all time best ds interview? Casual and relaxed, go figure. :)

The mid 90's were definitely a crossroads moment for him. And how can you not make sessions w Sakamoto & Eno work? That just blows me away. I wonder what happened to that Eno session...

Before I die I want to hear that stuff with Eno. What the heck did they do? How could it not be some sort of wonderful? Does Paul Rymer have any idea? Anybody????

Was this the "Zero Landmine" project? That was 2001.

I too would love to hear the results of the Eno sessions, i never realised they they had worked together. Maybe David should give him another call.

Got no clue, but I doubt it.

Well, if it isn't it can't be very far away. And the chap that has interviewed him, John Sakamoto (not related to Ryuichi, it seems  ) has done an excellent job, in my opinion.

hold your horses! wonderfully intelligent interview as that is, I do think John Sakamoto misheard 'Eno' for 'Ribot' (probably interviewing DS on the phone in those pre-Skype days). there's a clue there when David is talking about the well-known "afternoon's work" provided by 'Eno'.

Ribot it probably is then. The Eno/Sylvian stuff shall have to play out in dreams. :?

Don't think he did ever get to work with Eno. I've got a vague memory of it being mooted in the 80s but DS said that he and/or Eno wouldn't want to let go of control in the studio. I'm sure Sylvian mentioned this at some point.

As we know David is like a film director - if you've ever seen the clips on YouTube from "The Secrets of Japan" of him supervising Ryuichi and Steve playing "Blue Of Noon" will know what I mean. I don't know too much about Eno but from what I gather from Bryan Ferry and Phil Manzanera in a documentary, Eno and Ferry wanted to "direct" Roxy and so tensions arose.

did you consider/try speaking with Steve Jansen via his management?
understand the chance of speaking with David are nil but Steve has always "seemed" more approachable and more pragmatic so just wondered if it was worth a try?

The book arrived last Monday. The words have to wait a while before they'll be read, because currently I'm reading a bio on Peter Gabriel and there's also a book waiting about Nick Drake (Dreaming England).
For those with eye-problems beware: On The Periphery is printed in a rather small letter-type, while the lists of references and copyrights for the lyrics are even in a smaller letter-type.
