'Glowing Enigmas' Photographic Exhibition

From Brilliant Trees through Died In The Wool...

All the works are untitled, and there is no documentation of the individual images - where, who, when etc.

It might be interesting for people to know the subjects of the photographs of photographs. If anyone recognises, please share.

Wow. Thank you so much for posting those. For those of us who won't be able to see the exhibition that's a great selection.

thank you! :-)

some off-the-cuff remarks.. it's nice to recognise some objects first seen in the Time Spent documentary - the Indian saint (Meher Baba?) and other such figurines, a Super-8ish portrait of a tall woman in the desert (Ingrid's mother?).. some of the musical objects, too: the electric-acoustic guitar he had been using recently to write the Emily Dickinson miniatures, the Nord Lead, a walled barrage of guitars that must surely be Joan's etc.
plus, he must have passed his RTC-time striped sweatshirt on to Isobel now. :)

he seems to have had a veritable 'deer period' recently, just as he'd been "into" the crow back in RTC times.

a first glance has had nice associative juices working up.. many visuals, especially those sporting a religious subject, remind me of the photos Bill Nelson used to take in the '80s. the triptych arrangement obviously contributes to driving the theme home.

and, I know it's not something one normally does while taking pictures of oneself, but.. he could smile now and then, couldn't he? :)

Just going through the images trying to identify many of the people in the photographs.
Some appear in many images but I'm not sure who they are. His daughters perhaps? And in the photos of photos, perhaps other family members?

Here's a rough quick list. More question marks than anything else. Please copy and paste, adding any others you can identify.

Could the man in the middle photo of No. 21 be Robert Fripp?

10 - His parents? I have only seen one photos of them from years ago and I think they look similar. 9 12 13, 18 38 -Isobel. 26 32 39 Ameera. 21 Fripp and Yuka Fujii I think.

Interesting to compare these with the portraits in 'Perspectives'. Richard and Steve most obviously missing by comparison.
No Ingrid, either.
Quite Bold, the statement that the portrait of him and Joan makes.

I wish he'd acknowledge Mick in some way.

Thanks for the additional info.

No Steve? I thought the photos of photos in numbers 3 and 20 looked quite like him, but they may be older photos of their father.

Missouriman, I assume then that the girl in 28 is also Isobel?

28 is Isobel.

I am curious why David should acknowledge Mick in these photos or Steve or Richard. He had no contact with him for years. These pictures are from David's immediate environment; snapshots of what he sees day to day. Mick's image would be gratuitous and totally out of place. It's isn't some sentimental nostalgia fest.

Congratulations Simon!

I'm really looking forward to receiving my package from the gallery too.

May I ask which work you chose?

I've just ordered mine as well... Should look great next to my framed Uncommon Deities. To treat myself I also ordered the poster and the catalogue. I was tempted to order several of these catalogues. On eBay one recently sold for $277!

It's now getting very hard to name my favourite Sylvian item...

Greetings from the Dutch mountains,

Congratulations Sven. I can't imagine it not becoming a favourite Sylvian item, being unique as it is.
And did you choose one of the self-portraits or another work?

Interesting ebay news too - someone actually paid $277 for a catalogue that's still available at the gallery for 10% of that price - unbelievable.
