Armani / Nadal / Sylvian

Armani / Nadal / Sylvian

Postby Blemished on Wed Mar 09, 2011 9:05 am

Not a combination of names I'd ever have expected to see together, but check out the link via David's site...

Some very Blemish-esque music by David is being used for an Armani campaign featuring Rafael Nadal (the tennis player)

Unexpected but it works...

EDIT: actually just realised that the music used is 'Trauma', the bonus track from Blemish

Hmm an unusual change of direction marketing-wise, Sylvian advertising tighty whities? :smt104 Not something I thought I would see. There is no accreditation on the clip either.

Must be some good PRS payments in this :)
I hear them breathing
They know what I have done, all that I've been through
I tell them secrets
And who's to say it isn't so?

:?:
Don't particularly like/care about the name combination, but the worst thing is I don't think the music does anything to help the flat sequence of images.

Definitely gay eye candy (read the comments!), but wasn't Sylvian also at certain points in his career? (Maybe he still is to gay men of a certain age, I don't know, I'm not gay.)

Regardless, it is a tasteful enough way for him to fund his work, and I have no problem with that.

Not sure if it's no problem to me... Not the fact that he is permitting his music to be used for adverts, totally free to do whatever he wants with what he creates, but I remember an old interview in which he said that he had been offered to compose soundtracks but had refused because the stories and images weren't the right ones for his musical ideas. So it is disappointing to see this advert in which, in my opinion, the visual part does not in any way blend with the music (and vice versa). It's like listening to Jingle Bells stretched on a sunny beach in August.

P.S. Both Jingle Bells and Trauma are great! :D

I can´t see any relationship between a David Sylvian song and a Latin American tennis player...

Because it's been over thirty years since, we need to remind ourselves that DS was once very 'ambiguous' and projected a strong front of sex and eroticism, I thought David Sylvian was a gay man for a period of months when I first began exploring his work.

It's a good ad for sure.

I quite like it. I find it less offensive than the American insurance ad his version of "Somewhere" was used on. I don't know why people feel the need to be so precious about how is music is used. If it gets it out to a wider audience than surely that can only be of benefit?

the Ad is selling an ideal of style. The choice of music - amongst Sylvian's most ..dense....(Quiet life it aint)...wonderful exposure for our man....most reading this download- many at any rate - sylvian's music Illegally (I do). he, like everyone other than Josh groban has to make money to make music and he aint from sales. Sylvian has long worn Armani (check out the First day album photo shoot).
