125 Spheres

Just hoping that no-one ever leaves matches where David can reach them.

Track, I think it's probably best described as a track.

Must admit to being rather confused about this track - being so short and truncated, sounds more like a fragment of something bigger than a complete piece.
Yes, it does sound as if the music has a natural ending the way he's edited it, but with the vocals so prominent in the mix there's little chance of absorbing the atmosphere before the track ends.
I wonder what might have prompted such a thing?

This is the one I'd probably most like to hear explained, with regards to the lyrics. He must be singing about some specific incident. I've got £5 saying Chavez chucked it at him!

I thought it was about him watching the flaming heads of 125 matches burning on a wooden floor. Didn't know 125 Spheres was a game. Now I'm confused... :smt017

I wasn't confused... but now I am!

I don't think he would have a song lyric consisting of 'And when it appeared, it was a flaming book of matches, 125 spheres on a parquet floor' (that's the entire lyric for those unfamiliar!) unless such an image / moment had something to do with an incident he'd witnessed. Ergo, I think Miss Chavez may have chucked said book of matches at him when it was all going pear-shaped. Having it right there at the centre of his album might have some significance too. Only Big Dave knows for sure, and I hope someone asks him.

All that said though, if anyone has seen a flaming book of matches, they'll be able to tell you that it's all just one big sphere! And even if it wasn't, I'm still not buying Big Dave's Rain Man act.

I didn't take the interpretation so literally, other than he was describing something he discovered that had a great impact on him, it could have been his divorce papers?

I think that's a much better guess than mine. I have to admit that despite everything else I've said about the Manafon lyrics, this one I actually did take literally. Not so sure now.

This track certainly had the most immediate visual impact on me - but I just saw a load of red lights and flames, big gold rings, glass pyramids and tarot cards!?!
