To be honest I don't really like the remix much - there's not anywhere near the space that the original has. It's almost as if the guy thought he had to fill all the silences with sound, which defeats the purpose of the original.
Like the Blemish remixes, to me they're all pointless pastiche.
I understand the remix process, and in the case of dance music, electronica and pop it makes sense - change the rhythm, play with effects/cuts/loops and so on to achieve a different but similarly aimed piece. Pop to dancefloor, house to trance, etc.
But I feel Sylvian's work is more like art, and remixing it is like editing and transforming a DaVinci painting in photoshop and purporting the result to be classical art. By all means play with Warhol, but not with Monet - they were originally made with such different intentions that one is playful reconstruction, the other corruption.

I tend to agree with you to a certain degree. With the exception of the Chris Vrenna remix of Late Night Shopping, I have personally felt that past remixes of Sylvian's material were fairly unnecessary.
Javier, were you able to obtain the full track of Dai Fujikura's remix? If so, does it continue on in the manner of the samples (i.e. pretty much just the added violin plus added sound effects amongst the original recording) or does it even grow gradually fuller with additional stringed instruments?

I only listened a couple of times on listening posts at HMV, but do recall it being fairly consistent, no sense of crescendo.

With regards to Sylvian's remixes, and I haven't had the chance to listen to this one yet, but after the way Blemish was initially received, and I to did have some difficulty with some of the tracks when I first bought the album, I was very much excited to listen to the remix album after some of the reviews on here.
Have to say I really didn't like it at all, and much prefered the original, even on the more dificult tracks I prefered Blemish, thought it was just me, and I was surprised given I never fell in love with Blemish early on.

I don't like remixes, but this is a very good one. Probably because it's not too far from the original.
