Gone to Earth

From Brilliant Trees through Died In The Wool...

Gone to Earth

Postby Bap De La Bap on Thu Jun 08, 2006 4:11 am

This is only my 2nd of David's solo albums so far, having caned
Brilliant Trees for about 6 months.

I've been listening to this for a few months now and I always listen to the instrumental side 1st, this album is wonderful and makes me excited about hearing more solo stuff.

Kinda spooky that I bought 'Low' (Bowie) on the same day and half of that is instrumental too!

You're in for a real treat when you get to "Secrets of the Beehive" A lot of people consider that his best solo album to date!!

I too love to listen to the instrumental side- I listen to it while reading!

'Secrets of the Beehive' - hmm - needs to be purchased I feel, everyone raves about it so much....God there's just so much back-catalogue-age to buy isnt there? Having just spent a small fortune on some of Mick's stuff and some Medium stuff, my poor credit card will shortly be worked into a frenzy buying some David stuff and no doubt some Porcupine Tree. I will need to construct a new shelf for my J B K D etc CDs.

I adore Gone to Earth. I was the first solo David CD I bought and it's what got me hooked. I fell in love with Wave, so gorgeous.

I adore the instrumental to GTE. It took some growing on me to fall in love with the vocal cd, but now it is one of my all time favourites. I absolutely love Taking the Veil and of course Silver Moon.

I do love Secrets too but up until Blemish I thought it was his best work.

I've just ordered Secrets of the Beehive and GTE off Amazon (YAY!) so I look forward to contributing my two pennyworth to this section of the forum I've so far woefully neglected.

Ahh, same here! I was 15 when I first heard Gone to Earth and was completely and utterly blown away. I had never experienced music so profoundly before, and I don't think any other artist has affected me as deeply as Sylvian.

Edit: I should probably add that 20 years has past since I was 15. You can do the math.

It looks like it! Was it you who said you have Brilliant Trees but no albums thereafter?
