I just had to choose Let The Happiness In.
the artwork, the build up, the waiting, the pleasure on the release day.
but Red Guitar was close, very close...

I voted for "Heartbeat" (but was sorely tempted by "Forbidden Colours", "Red Guitar", "Ink in the Well", "Taking the Veil"...well, everything, really!)

In general, though, my favourite Sylvian songs have not been singles.

I voted for Forbidden Colours - the song that got me into Japan in the first place.

World Citizen. But Orpheus and Forbidden Colours were close!

I voted Wonderful World. Its a perfect pop song. Beautiful and atmospheric. Heartbeat comes a close second. I've always loved this track. I even like Ingrid's contribution to the song even though I'm not over fond of her voice.

I chose Wonderful World as well - love the jazzy feel to it.

Blackwater. I was in an electronics store when I first heard it, and had no idea about the project or what Sylvian was up to at the time, so it was a shock. I think I like it as a single because it manages to present something very commercial and yet it does not compromise Sylvian's overall vision. Very tricky, for him.

Red Guitar for purely sentimental, selfish reasons! Meant a lot to me back in the day when I was a terribly serious and slightly depressed 14 year old.

I was in a job interview at a morning paper the first time I heard Blackwater.
the radio was on so quiet in the backround, but still I just couldn't hear what the boss was talking about for these beautiful minutes.
I don't remember answering to any questions, I got the job, but didn't show up. had better things to do, like listening to Rain Tree Crow all day long...
