lost "Some kInd of Fool" from "Gentlemen take polaroids"

it is not his solo, and I should ask it to Virgin.

I'd like to see Sylvian release an album of torch songs. Just him and a string orchestra.

I would like to hear a collaboration with Massive Attack at some point in the future or have the studio tracks of The First Day, Damage and The House In Which We Live be released (though that would be entirely the decision of Virgin).
But I'll be more than satisfied to sit down and take in the upcoming release with the extremely experimental musicians of Erstwhile Records. I hope it's not too much of a shock to my system and I have a similarly bad reaction as I initially had upon hearing blemish. I wasn't quite ready for it. Now I believe I have prepared myself accordingly by listening to a lot of work from these current collaborators...So whip it on us Mr Sylvian --- I think I can take it. :-)

I have heard David Sylvian is a good guitarist. Therefore id like some electric guitar driven stuff on his next album to see what he can do ala Stateline. 8)

"Japan Fan", don't know where you read Sylvian was a good guitarist after 30 yrs I suppose he would have achieved level of competency but I always remember the last "Whistle Test" appearance for Japan when during "The Art of Parties" he had to turn his back on the audience to change chord

By his own admission, Sylvian is not a great guitarist. However, if you listen to some of the Rain Tree Crow material, he is featured a lot there (i.e. Black Crow Hits shoe Shine City - he does NOT play the acoustic solos on Red Earth or When Poets Dreamed of Angels from SOTB) and he played the licks on Wanderlust on the live tour which were faultless. I've played guitar now for 27 years and I know competence when I hear it; Sylvian is definitely a dark horse of the guitar - you think he's very basic, then comes out with something really quite good.

Stuff I'd liek to see released - a live box set of every tour.

I remember David Torn said in an interview on innerviews.org (fantastic trove, by the way) that he thought Sylvian was immensely talented - to the extent that, upon hearing Flux + Mutability, he thought that maybe he (Torn) did play on that album, but must have forgotten about it : )

I must admit I'm madly in love with the trademark-and-not-enough-celebrated 'liquid' guitar-pedal sound Sylvian started to use on 'Words with the Shaman' and then spread onto Gone to Earth ('The Wooden Cross' is a personal favourite), the Czukay albums, Ember Glance, the Zazou tracks for Sahara Blue, the Chavez tracks and 'Praise' from Dead Bees. I would really want to know which kind of pedalboard it is (I suspect something on the cheap side).

I'd like someone to release his bathroom-singing attempts at stretching his vocal range up to an octave and beyond, complete with Ingrid's 'YOU CAN DO IT! YOU CAN DO IT!' encouraging hollerings.
Then I'd blackmail him ('See? You can do it - and now everyone will know. So I think it'd be much wiser if you'd start to sing up from your own initiative').

The technique used on flux is could be done with a simple volume pedal...or a volume knob.

Basicially, strike the guitar note then higher up the volume. Build up some tracks (one note over another) and hey presto you have the effect. Done it myself - but it takes FOREVER. I think an e-bow does the same thing but electronically.

Which is nice.
