Since they were able to quote verbatim from Chris Dahlen's press release for Sleepwalkers, I would reckon that the seller may have a promo copy or two on hand.
But if one also looks closely at the small print, it states that the cd will actually be shipped out upon release on September 27. So basically it appears as if the seller is also taking pre-orders for those that they plan on ordering later this month...

Items will be sent out upon receipt of a Cleared PayPal Payment / Clearance Of A Cheque In GB£ / Receipt Of A Postal Order In GB£ - Or Upon Release Monday September 27th 2010 And On The Next Available Posting Slot.

I've bought new releases from this seller before, usually as a way to guarantee I'll get physical copies of singles by other artists. Not had any problems with them, but they aren't offering anything more than Amazon or HMV. Most items have arrived within 24 hours of the release date (I live in the UK) and their prices are competitive. The only problem has been that they are at the mercy of the record companies distribution systems (as all retailers are), and as an independent are sometimes unfortunately at the back of the queue if physical copies are in short supply (limited editions for example). "Sleepwalkers" shouldn't be a problem but if I were after a limited edition item I'd tend to use recordstore.co.uk or HMV Online.

Thank you all so much for responding and for clarifying my query and... yes, I didn't read the seller's notes properly (I always do - thoroughly - when I'm buying). I read his page very briefly while on my lunch break and then, hastily, posted my query here. Sorry...

Artwork for Sleepwalker is by Kristamas Klousch and her website is here http://kristamas.net/home.html. The picture is a self portrait as is the majority of her work. Discovered by Samadhisound adding her to their list of 'likes' on Facebook today.

OK, so the portrait featured on "Sleepwalkers" is called "Bastet", which was also the name of the shop favoured by Mick Karn in the later Japan years, as well as of course being the Egyptian lioness and later female cat goddess Bastet, a protective deity. Bastet was associated with Artemis by the Greeks living in Egypt, and therefore the sister of Apollo, father of Orpheus.

I wonder what's going on with the pre-order - end of August came and went and no word at Samadhisound.

Note from David today..preorder is available now :)

SLEEPWALKERS

As many of you will already be aware, despite relatively continuous work on solo albums, I've maintained strong ties with a number of musicians throughout my life and have continued to produce collaborative work in one context or another. The most important of these in recent times has been the Nine Horses project with Burnt Friedman and Steve Jansen. On this new collection, Sleepwalkers, a selection of collaborative work produced over the last decade or so, I've included compositions by Nine Horses as well as more fleeting flirtations and one offs. Neglected offspring. Represented also is long term friend and writing partner, Ryuichi Sakamoto, as well as more recent, but potentially equally productive, partnerships such as Christian Fennesz, Jan Bang and Erik Honoré, Arve Henriksen and contemporary classical composer Dai Fujikura. Dai and myself are currently putting the finishing touches on a radically reinterpreted version of Manafon that features original orchestration by Dai and a number of fresh compositions which extend the themes of the original album (after one has abandoned a belief in god, poetry is that essence which takes its place as life’s redemption: wallace stevens), to be released early 2011.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the work presented here, personally selected, remixed and sequenced and entirely remastered. These are the orphans, abused, estranged, exotic, migrating from diverse corners of the globe, brought together under one roof which they're learning to share despite their differences.

We contain multitudes. We're nothing if not contradictory.

(Consistency is contrary to nature, contrary to life: Aldous Huxley)

I miss your company.

Keep listening.

A nice if somewhat odd comment. To the best of my knowledge we have never met, but if he is requesting the pleasure of my company I would accept the invitation and would be pleased to make his acquaintance. ;-)

Or, he could always make an appearance here on the site and join in on the conversation.

Perhaps he is planning on performing live again. He has suggested that he would like to take Manafon on the road :D

which could be why Manafon has been 'symphonised' - just send the sheet music to all kinds of orchestras, and then only David turns up after they have rehearsed it. No need to take a complete band on the road. Also easier sponsor wise perhaps? I don't know. Excited about this release though - even if the pre-order won't work here at home, will try on Monday at work. Also excited about the new album already...

I'm not sure why the need to reinterpret the material on Manafon, as the finished product sounds just fine to my ears and especially since the Random Acts of Senseless Violence remix was somewhat disappointing and unnecessary in my opinion. But I remain quite anxious to hear any 'number of fresh compositions' that Fujikura and ICE has completed for Sylvian... this shift of direction into contemporary orchestral music should yield some wonderful rewards.

There is a new sleepwalker video up on the dS site. Pretty boring stuff. I hope the rest of the album fairs better. At least we have the Fennesz collab to look forward too. ;)

I agree, the video is boring. The images are alright but I find them devoid of any emotion. That masked makeup look reminds me of Annie Lennox at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert when she sang "Under Pressure" with Bowie.
